Japanese consumers are emerging from the security of the collective group as they become increasing comfortable expressing their individuality. These trends have been well-documented by JMRN, including the fact that at the forefront of this change are Japanese women. JMRN research shows that high-earning Japanese women spend some 10% of their annual income on self-polishing for personal and professional reasons. Meanwhile, "Womenomics” is a term coined by Ms. Kathy Matsui in the late 1990s, in a report which highlighted that females in Japan are responsible for many of the recent areas of strength in the economy, and are likely to play a major role in long-term potential economic growth. The session will address the overall trend of a more individualistic consumer, the Womenomics effect, and business opportunities in Japan.
